How do CNC millingmachines work?
The cutter is a cutting tool that is used as needed. It rotates around its own axis and removes material from a clamped workpiece.
The CNC milling machine is controlled by a Computerized Numerical Control (CNC). A 2D drawing or a 3D model serves as a template. The parameters or CNC code for the geometry of the component can be transmitted to the machine via a CAM system or via manual input. These parameters position the cutting tool with an accuracy of 0.005 mm on the workpiece and in the machining area of the CNC milling machine. The required component is now created through the targeted removal of the material.
Range of services of CNC milling machines
Common CNC milling machines are controlled via 3 to 5 axes. Modern versions even have up to 7 axes and, depending on the size, can have a working range of 6000 mm x 3000 mm x 2000 mm. High cutting speeds are achieved with high-performance spindles with a performance range of up to 50,000 revolutions per minute. This reduces processing times. Thus, a CNC milling machine can provide many different services – from prototypes to large series – from small part to large part machining.
Possible materials and quantities
Basically, any material from which chips can be removed can be machined on a CNC milling machine. In addition to the common aluminum and steel alloys, components made of plastic or wood can also be manufactured. Thanks to CNC technology, the parameters only need to be recorded once. In this way, identical components can be produced at short notice. The CNC milling machine does not forget any job.
Refinements are also possible
In addition to different machining operations with CNC milling, part.solutions can also offer surface treatment of components. In doing so, we work together with appropriate partners. Thanks to these possibilities, our customers receive everything from a single source.
Customer Project
For a client from the mechanical engineering industry, which manufactures systems for the food industry, part.solutions was able to deliver an extensive order with mechanical production parts. The challenge was the tight time frame of 6 weeks and the high diversity of the components, including the surface treatment.
